SHELF is a biannual magazine celebrating illustrated books because these works are essential!

SHELF was founded in 2024 by Helen Hancocks—illustrator and owner of the specialist bookstore Shelf Editions—as a true declaration of love for the art of the illustrated book, with the aim of expanding the visibility these works receive.

Through its pages and website, we hope to highlight authors, illustrators, the publishing industry, and the market as a whole, while considering the illustrated book as an art form in its own right, worthy of critical analysis and special attention.
