FEUX D'ARTIFICE

Fireworks is a sparkling album by Matthew Burgess and Cátia Chien. It highlights the simple pleasures of a hot July day in the city, as two children eagerly await a spectacular fireworks display.

Two children spend a sweltering July 4th exploring the city: breakfast in Chinatown, a gushing fire hydrant on a sweltering street, and a jazz musician in the park whose brassy notes make everyone dance. Throughout the day, excitement builds as the big night show approaches: the fireworks!

With vibrant neon illustrations by Cátia Chien and poetic text that leaps off the page by Matthew Burgess, the award-winning duo offer us a dazzling double-fold finale, as spectacular as real fireworks.

Winner of the 2026 Caldecott Medal.
