THE ILLUSTRATORS : OLIVER JEFFERS

THE ILLUSTRATORS : OLIVER JEFFERS

An insight into the life and work of the Northern Irish illustrator, bookmaker, painter, designer, activist, and international visual communication star.
A true 21st-century publishing phenomenon, Oliver Jeffers has, through his energy and curiosity, led an exceptional career that shows no signs of slowing down. Barely in his forties, he has published a series of immensely successful works, both as an illustrator and author-illustrator, including *How to Catch a Star* and *Begin Again*. This overview of his career will highlight his passion for the environment and his desire to understand humanity's great challenges, as well as the influence of these concerns on his creative and intellectual output.

Jeffers' list of achievements is long and prestigious: he has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions in both the UK and the US and was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2022 for services to the arts. More importantly, he has tirelessly pushed the boundaries of what a picture book can be, both in terms of structure and content. His constant exploration of existential questions, whether through illustration or other mediums like *in situ* installations, has had a major influence on the creation of authorial picture books. His works have been translated into many languages and adapted into other formats, including animated feature films such as *Lost and Found*.
