Hand-painted illustration of Esmé Shapiro on a vase created by Montreal ceramicist Ronald Pothier. This unique piece, approximately 12 cm high, is ideal for holding pencils, brushes, flowers, lattes, or anything else. This vase is part of a collection of 20 pieces illustrated by 19 great names in illustration.

Esmé Shapiro was born in Los Angeles, California. She spent most of her childhood wandering through the dry brush and flowering succulents of Laurel Canyon. In 2010, she ventured east to study at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island. She now divides her time between the Hudson Valley and New York City. Her favorite place to paint is her studio on her farm in the Catskills, where she surrounds herself with numerous animals and flowers. She lives with her husband, Daniel Kaufman, who is a filmmaker, and their two scruffy dogs, Chebini and Olympia. She will never say no to a bagel. She was recently in Montreal and took the time to paint a vase for us, while chatting about life and the weather. Thanks, Esmé!
